RIAS CPD: Unlocking the Value of UK Grown & Made Bio-Based Insulation in New Build and Retrofit Construction
Thursday 29 August 2024, 12.30 - 13.30 (online)
The online recording of this event can be made available on request.
Event description:
Natural fibre insulation is now UK grown & made, BBA certified, and increasingly affordable, unlocking the potential for using bio-based materials in construction projects at scale, yet buildings are still often designed for the ‘oil age’. For architects and construction professionals, join this CPD session with the IndiNature team to explore natural fibre insulations in buildings for a breathable thermal envelope, outstanding natural soundproofing and maximum embodied carbon capture and emissions avoidance - for comfortable homes and a cool planet.
Please note: this event could contribute towards the ARB’s 2024 mandatory requirement for CPD on ‘Environmental Sustainability’.
About the speaker:
Scott Simpson, Chief Technical Officer - Founder, IndiNature
Scott Simpson is IndiNature’s Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer. Prior to IndiNature he was working in grassroots community development in the UK, working in neighbourhoods with poor social housing conditions. He wanted to learn how to make buildings healthier and more affordable to heat, so he completed an MSc in Architecture (Advanced Environmental and Energy Systems) and focused on lab-based research into natural building materials. He put theory to practice by rebuilding his family home with them in Scotland, using skills gained as a housebuilder in Vancouver. Over the last 8 years he led the establishment of the first IndiNature Mill in the Scottish Borders and secured IndiTherm as the first industrial hemp insulation to achieve an BBA Agément Certificate.
Please note: this CPD is free and exclusive to current RIAS members only. To join or find out more, please see here. For future learning opportunities, please use the explore tab above.
