RIAS CPD: Future wood supplies for construction, a focus on the UK Timber resource

Event description:
This event will describe the current and future wood supplies for construction in the UK, the wood resource from UK forests and current and future opportunities for its use in construction.
Please note this event could contribute towards the ARB’s 2024 mandatory requirement for CPD on ‘Environmental Sustainability’.
About the speakers:
Andy Leitch, Deputy Chief Executive at Confor
Andy has been involved in the forest industry for nearly 40 years and is currently the Deputy Chief Executive of Confor (UK). He recently co-authored the National Wood Strategy and was instrumental in encouraging UK government to initiate the Timber in Construction Roadmap. He is a keen supporter of the RIAS awards. In recent years, he has commissioned a long list of R&D projects focusing on increasing the use of timber in construction. He has been a Director of Wood for Good and Scotland’s Housing Fair and is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.
Rob MacKenna, General Manager, Lockerbie Sawmill, James Jones and Sons Ltd
Rob MacKenna has worked in the timber processing industry for 24 years. He is currently General Manager at Lockerbie Sawmill and responsible for James Jones and Sons timber processing operations in South Scotland. He graduated in Forestry and Forest Products from the University of Wales and holds an MBA from the Open University. As well as General Manager at Lockerbie Sawmill, he is Chair of the UK Timber Grading Committee, Committee member of B518 (bsi. standards development – structural timber) and on the management board of the SIRT (Strategic Integrated Research in Timber) project.
