Timber cladding provides an attractive, economical and often unique way to finish and protect a building’s exterior. Its versatility makes it ideal for domestic and commercial projects – refurbished and new build. Wood’s natural properties bring added value too, that’s in addition to its proven sustainability as a renewable building resource. Correctly designed, specified and installed, timber cladding will have a long and low maintenance life. It has a lot going for it!

About the speakers:
Dr Ivor Davies, Technical Consultant, Timber Decking and Cladding Association
Ivor is a wood scientist with over 30 years’ experience in the timber industry. He is a part time senior lecturer in the Graduate School at the Centre for Alternative Technology in mid Wales and a technical consultant for the Timber Decking and Cladding Association. Ivor is technical author of the BS 8605 series of British Standards on external timber cladding and is writing the 4th edition of TRADA’s External Timber Cladding manual. Before taking on his current roles in 2020, Ivor had worked at Edinburgh Napier University for 16 years where he taught on several undergraduate and masters programmes and was a research fellow in the Institute for Sustainable Construction.
Janet Sycamore, Director, Timber Decking and Cladding Association
Janet has been a director of the Timber Cladding and Decking Association for 10 years as well as a Director of the Wood Protection Association. She has over 30 years’ experience in the wood protection industry particularly with a background in chemistry and several years in marketing.
