Mike Barlow, Partner, MFMac
Mike Barlow specialises in non–contentious construction law, including building and engineering contracts, professional appointments, novation agreements, collateral warranties, performance bonds and guarantees. Mike has extensive experience of both NEC3 and NEC4, including on some of the largest projects currently underway in Scotland, as well as SBCC/JCT, FIDIC and MF/1. Mike has lectured at the Universities of Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Cambridge and regularly delivers practical training on contractual matters to clients in the construction and engineering sectors.
Sonia Hughes, Architect/Consultant, Turner & Townsend
Sonia Hughes is a qualified architect whose experience to date has centred primarily on the technical design and delivery of construction projects.
In addition to her architectural qualifications, Sonia has a master’s degree in Construction Law, Adjudication and Arbitration, from Robert Gordon University and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Sonia recently joined Turner & Townsend’s claims and disputes team, where she has engaged with several commercial and infrastructural projects.
Alan Thomson, Director, Turner & Townsend
Alan Thomson is a highly experienced Chartered Surveyor specialising in contract services. He has extensive experience with NEC contracts, having successfully managed and resolved numerous large-scale claims and disputes. He has delivered comprehensive training on NEC, JCT, and FIDIC contracts to clients, main contractors, and subcontractors. His training sessions are known for their depth and practical insights, helping industry professionals navigate complex contractual frameworks effectively.
