Density Done Well: Getting Urban Structure Right Within NPF4
Tuesday 13th May 2025, 10.00-12.30pm
Hybrid Event
This event is for those working within the planning system in Scotland seeking to enhance their understanding of the practical ways in which NPF4 ambitions are being realised to create more liveable, sustainable, productive places and the challenges associated.
We will be joined by a line-up of expert speakers each with their own perspective and insights to share.
Our first speaker Husam Al Waer is an urbanist with a background in architecture, urban planning, and sustainability. He is a Professor and Chair in Urban Design at the University of Dundee and his work to date has made a demonstrable impact in both academia and practice. Husam joins us to discuss his recent work “Understanding the 20-Minute Neighbourhood: Making opportunities for people to live well locally” published in April 2024 and how concepts revealed may be woven into everyday urban, sub-urban and rural life.
The next speaker we are pleased to introduce is Kevin Murphy, Director of Planning at Homes for Scotland. As a Chartered Town Planner with over 20 years’ experience in both the private and public sector, Kevin joins us to talk us through the rapidly changing national and local planning landscape at a time when the delivery of housing hasn’t been more important.
In the third and final presentation, Lisa Blyth & Amy Drabble will look at the placemaking strategies used in their recent project at West Town, Edinburgh - a new ‘20-minute neighbourhood’ on the western edge of the city.
The day will conclude with a panel Q&A Chaired by Stuart Hay, RIAS Head of Outreach. In Person places are limited by capacity, however, an online option will also be offered. Don’t miss out, sign up today!
